SCHOLA PCH portable laboratory for physico-chemical water analysis
WaterLab SCHOLA PCH is a portable water testing laboratory for environmental education designed to introduce students to aspects of physico-chemical water analysis. The physical and chemical water quality parameters are essential to determine the quality of a water supply.
Chemical properties of water are important to the health of humans as well as the plants and animals that live in the water body. There are numerous chemical substances in water both from natural and anthropogenic sources that have a huge effect on the quality of our water sources. The chemical tests included in the SCHOLA PCH kit are carried out using the colorimetric method. The colorimetric method is a rapid, visual technique for determining the concentration of chemical elements in water by adding a chemical reagent causing a colour reaction. The change in colour of the sample is compared against a colour chart. Physical parameters include pH, temperature, conductivity and total dissolved solids, turbidity, odour, colour, taste and general appearance. The physical parameters are measured using a digital meter and a turbidity tube. The physical water quality parameters themselves do not actually indicate water pollution but, it is important to monitor them regularly because changes in time can indicate balances in the water system and the need for further investigation.
SCHOLA PCH kit comprises a Colour Comparator Kit with colour discs and consumables for 200 tests of each chemical parameter included, turbidity tube for turbidity investigation, digital meter for measuring pH, temperature, conductivity and TDS, bottles and beakers for sample collection, and a set of calibration solutions for digital media. The range of parameters supplied as standard can be expanded simply by adding additional consumables for parameters like dissolved oxygen, arsenic or water hardness and more than 30 others that can be tested using the Colour Comparator Kit included.
